This past Sunday( the day before Memorial Day )Brent and I went canoeing with 12 friends. It was a lot of fun. Brent and I went canoeing last Memorial Day down the same river. There are several great canoe rental places in Kingston Springs. This year we went with Foggy Bottoms. Our friend, Ann Claire, got the trip together and made reservations for all of us. Last time that Brent and I went, we rented from Music City Canoe which is actually right across the street from Foggy Bottoms. Honestly, I don't really think there are any differences in the canoeing places. The canoes are different colors and that's about it!
Last time that Brent and I went, we chose to do the 5 mile trip and it took us about 2 hours. This time they thought about the 11 miler but chose to do the 9 mile trip! I'm glad it wasn't 11 miles! After about 6-7 miles, I was over it!! It was SUPER hot that day and there is little to no shade while you are out on the river. I made sure to put plenty off sunscreen on b/c I knew we would be in direct sun the whole time...Mr. Smarty aka Brent, did not put on any sunscreen. I warned him that he really needed to put some on but he said "nahhhhh, I'll be okay". I'll get to the outcome of that decision in a moment!
I hate that we didn't get any pictures of the trip but no one was wanting to bring their cell phones/cameras on the river...me included. I did take mine last time though so I'm not sure why I thought it was a bad idea. So we unfortunately didn't get any pictures! Like I said there were about 16 of us. The canoe guys drive you and your canoes to the spot where you put your canoes in and then pick you up at the end of your trip. You DO have to carry/slide your canoe down a pretty lengthy hill to get to the water though. Ugh...I was already sweating and we hadn't even started to canoe yet. I don't know of it's just that it was super hot that day or if it's being pregnant, but I am sweating a lot more than I did last summer. I think it's the pregnancy! I read something about sweating more quickly and more frequently than usual....the website that I read that on was definitely telling the truth. Anyways, it took us about 5 hours to do the 9 mile course. We did stop for lunch though. I am use to getting out there and really going but this trip was more laid back! We leisurely strolled down the river. There was a small current that would even carry us for a bit and we didn't have to paddle.
This is the bridge at the end of the trip.
It was fun catching up wiht everyone while doing something really fun! Everyone kind of did their own thing but for the most part we all stayed together the whole way. I love getting to do outdoorsy things often. We will definitely have to go back and do this soon!
So Brent is definitely paying for not wearing any sunscreen. Even with sunscreen on, I got a little pink on my shoulders and the top of my legs. They are in the sun the whole time so you really can't do anything about that but to just reapply often. I am happy with the sun that I got and wasn't hurting at all after the trip. Brent's arms, legs, and face looked like a lobster Sunday evening and actually they still look that way!! He got SO BURNT. He said that it's the worst burn he has ever had and I believe him! Last night he showed me the tops of his legs and they have blisters on them! EWWWW! It looks so painful. I feel so bad for him! I'm sure he will apply sunscreen next time :)
