-Rowen's 2 year pictures-

We had Rowen's 2 year pictures taken on the last Saturday of October. It was a chilly morning but a very beautiful day! The wonderful Libby Barker took pictures for us. You can check out her website HERE. I love every single picture she took! I have spared you from all 150 and picked out a few of my favorites.

{A hair cut, tuna, and a cutie}

I have been thinking about chopping my hair off for weeks now. I have gone back and forth, listed pros and cons, second guessed my want for shorter hair etc...etc...Well, last Tuesday I had an appointment and went for it. I have had long hair for many many years and I loved it but just wanted something different.

I visited Trim. Brent gets his hair cut there but it was actually my first time there. I loved the atmosphere and the girl that cut my hair was awesome! I took in a picture, we had a quick consultation, and she went to work on my super long hair. She was actually really excited to cut lots of it off which made me that much more excited. I was a little nervous at first but so ready for a new look as well.

And here's the before and after:
8 or so inches gone! I am really enjoying it. It takes much less time to wash and dry which is perfect with a baby who will be here in the next few weeks. I'm still playing around with how to style it but I'm sure I will figure it all out soon!

----------------------------------------------------

I was really craving tuna and noodles last week for lunch and knew I had those 2 items in the pantry. The only thing I didn't know was what creamy sauce would I use to hold it all together. I of course Googled "tuna noodles" and every recipe that popped up was pretty much the same. This might sound like a college kid type meal but it was super quick and took about 10 minutes to throw together.

*one can of tuna
( we get our canned tuna at Whole Foods and it's the most delicious canned tuna...it really is! )
*half a can of cream of mushroom
*a handful of egg noodles

I boiled the noodles then drained them after they were done. Left them in the strainer while I mixed the tuna and cream of mushroom in the pot on the stove that I used for the noodles. I let those heat up together for a few minutes and then put the noodles back in the pot. Mixed it all together, added a pinch of salt and pepper and voila! Tuna noodles! Some of the recipes added peas and chopped mushrooms to the dish. But I just stuck with the basic recipe.

Rowen has been quite the cutie on camera lately. He has always been really good at smiling in pictures but lately I feel like his cute, sweet personality is really shining through in pictures.

{at the park last week}

{at Union Station watching the trains}

And this is random BUT don't you think Rowen looks like me here?! I do! I feel like our facial features are almost identical right down to our cute little cheeks!

Happy Tuesday!

A baby shower for Isla

A few weeks ago baby Isla was given a sweet, sweet shower by my mother in law and sister in laws. The cuteness started with the invitation...

The shabby chic flowers are similar to the ones in Isla's nursery. I thought it was such a beautiful invitation.

They did an awesome job with the decor and food too!

I loved all the pink!

Friends and family came and munched on delicious goodies( including strawberry cake )while I got to open so many lovely gifts. Some of the gifts included sheets, a sound machine, little tiny swimsuits for the summer, diapers, yummy smelling baby products, blankets, rattles  and some other wonderful things like...

...a monogrammed swaddle blanket, lace bloomers, a crocheted hat made by my granny, a beautiful sweater also made by my granny, monogrammed bloomers, and  headbands( made by Angie ).

Look at all the pink!

Me with the hostesses

It was such a nice afternoon spent with wonderful guests who showered baby Isla with tons of nice things.

Symptoms: I'm moving slower and get out of breathe quickly.

Best Moment this week:  Getting checked this past Tuesday. I'm 1cm dilated. Thinking I have already progressed a little more b/c that evening I had pretty bad Braxton-Hicks contractions for a good hour or 2.

{Life Lately} in pictures

A couple weeks ago we got a new rug to put in our kitchen.
It's from Target and I love the way it looks!

I bought some really cute items for Isla at Home Goods 2 weeks ago...
I couldn't pass up the cute "Santa Loves Me" outfit. The little tutu skirt...so cute! The front row of tiny shoes came from Home Goods too. At $5.99 each, I had to get 3 pairs.

A little peek into Isla's nursery
I should have the crib all painted and set up tomorrow!! I'll post some "finished" pics soon.

I bought a plain white lamp base and lamp shade but decided to jazz the shade up a little by adding some ruffles.

So I just sewed a ruffle on the top and one on the bottom-

It's been beautiful around here lately...very Fall-ish!
( a tree in our neighborhood )

Since it's been nice and a lot cooler, Rowen and I headed to the zoo last Monday.
I try to take him once a week or once every 2 weeks. It's such a fun place and he loves animals. He gets that from me!

Brent and I had a date night last Saturday. We ate at Burger Up. It was so yummy. And after we had ice cream at Jeni's .
Brent had chocolate and coffee flavors. I was less original and had whiskey pecan and biscuits & peach jam...y'all all the biscuits & peach jam was amazing! That idea actually came from the famous Loveless Cafe here in Nashville! They have the best biscuits and jams. I have got to go back to Jeni's before baby Isla comes!

And on a finishing note, we need to buy Rowen a bigger Titans sweatshirt!
These pictures crack me up! It actually fits fine if he's not wearing the hood!

Rowen's Big Boy Room

I have been itching to get Rowen's room set up with his big bed ever since we moved in( 2 months ago ). One main reason was to get the crib out of his room b/c I needed it for Isla's nursery. We finally bought his mattress and picked it up Monday night. i set it up Tuesday morning while Brent was at work and Rowen took his first nap in it Tuesday afternoon.

We bought his bedding a few months ago from Pottery Barn Kids. I LOVE the madras! And I  found the train blanket at Home Goods last week.

Over his bed is his initial and 2 train "prints".
I bought the frames at Michaels.
In the middle frame: a piece of scrapbook paper and a wooden "R"
In the outside frames: 2 identical train pictures cut out of a birthday party bag that I found at the Dollar Tree.

He has slept so well in his big bed and hasn't even tried to crawl out in the mornings. He actually waits for us to come in and get him. It was a much easier transition from crib to big bed than I imagined.

He loves his new bed!

Halloween 2013 & costume storytime

The Halloween weather here in Nashville this year was not good. Not good at all! It rained all day well actually poured most of the day and by the time trick or treating time rolled around the winds were really strong and there was even a tornado watch in effect. So needless to say we didn't go trick or treating and neither did any of the kids in the neighborhood. Our neighborhoods association actually re-scheduled trick or treating for the following day. And actually a lot of neighborhoods around the city did the same thing.

We started our day with a Starbucks run...

he loved saying "Boo"! Rowen wanted a blueberry muffin and I got an iced drink and a piece of pumpkin bread. If you like pumpkiny stuff, you'll love their pumpkin bread.

We hung around the house all day since the weather was yucky.
{showing you the ghost on his shirt}

We did carve 2 little pumpkins we had in the house even though we figured we wouldn't have any trick or treaters. Rowen LOVED the lite pumpkins.

Hopefully the weather will be better next year b/c we had ZERO trick or treaters on Thursday or Friday!! And that left us with this...

a huge bowl of candy! The snickers peanut butter ones are my fav!

-----------------------------------------------------------------

The day before Halloween( Wednesday )we headed to storytime at the library. We go each week. Rowen loves it and they do a really good job entertaining the kids. Well, Wednesday was "wear your costume" to storytime! They usually have 3 different times to come but since the kids were trick or treating afterwards they only had the 9:30am time. The place was packed!! Little kids in costumes everywhere.

First picture: found a seat on another little kid. haha!
Second picture: admiring the little girl's bunny ears.

The kids got to trick or treat around the children's wing after storytime. Each station was handing out cute little toys.

 So even though Rowen didn't get to go trick or treating around the neighborhood, he did get to go to trunk or treat and trick or treating at the library!

Trunk or Treat 2013

On Sunday October 27th we had our annual trunk or treat at church. I love trunk or treat.

Decorating our trunk is always so fun and all the little kids running around in their costumes is fun to watch. We decorated our trunk this year with train stuff. The week before, Rowen had a train birthday party so we just used his party decorations on our trunk.

{Oops! I didn't get an actual pic of our trunk!}

Rowen was a penguin. He looked so cute!! And he was the only penguin there. I love the little penguin feet!

A little comparison:

Rowen's cousins joined him this year and they were all three having a ball! Aren't they all so cute together?!

It was a pretty evening and all the kids had a great time! Trunk or Treat 2013 was a huge success.
