First off, I can't believe my baby is almost 3 years old! { insert sad face } Rowen is growing so quickly and I just want to bottle up every single day with him. We had his birthday party this past Saturday and a party it was! I had so much fun planning this construction party. My most favorite party of his so far. It was easy to decide on a theme a few months ago. He really loves any kind of vehicle but construction trucks are his favorite!! So construction party it was.
After looking around for decorations/plates/cups/etc...I realized that the perfect time to have a construction party is in October! Halloween colors coincide with construction colors! There was no shortage of orange, black, and yellow items. Perfect!
Decorations:
After leaving Home Depot a few weeks ago, we were driving past the small pieces of machinery and I instantly new we had to rent one for the party. I mean how cool would it be to have a real construction truck there?! Pretty cool.
I also used plastic construction hats, cones, sawhorses, play trucks, caution tape and balloons as part of the party decor.
Kids Table:
I thought the kids table turned out so cute! I made the table( with the help of my husband )with a piece of plywood and we used 2 tree stumps as the legs in the middle. *Part of one of our neighbors trees fell down during a storm a while back. After they chopped the branches up, I went over and asked if I could have 2 of the large pieces!* I covered the table with a black tablecloth and ran caution tape around the edges.
Coloring sheets and crayons were there for the kids as well as those adorable cone cups!! We used cinder blocks for seats.
Food Table/Drink Table:
The actual table was a piece of plywood covered in an orange tablecloth. I used old truck tires for the legs! Construction trucks and hard hats were used as serving dishes as well.
We served fruit, veggies with dip, sausage balls, and popcorn. I also made white chocolate dump truck shaped suckers. The party was at 2pm so snacks were the way to go.
I borrowed 2 orange coolers to serve the drinks in. Very construction like right?!
The adults had orange solo cups but the kids....the kids had cone cups!! I mean, how stinkin' cute are those?!!
They were a big hit!
Activities:
I had a few activities that I knew I wanted to make sure and have at the party. There was ring toss, a dig zone, truck coloring sheets, and as everyone entered, there was a little station where kids could grab a construction hat!!
It's pretty hard to find rings for a ring toss game if you didn't know! I got a little crafty and used glow stick necklaces for the rings. They fit over the cones perfectly! For the dig zone I bought a $3 plastic pool, covered it with a black plastic tablecloth, my husband poured in the sand, and I threw in a few construction trucks. That was another big hit. Kids love to dig in sand! I also printed off a few different truck coloring sheets and had those on the kids table.
The cake:
His birthday cake was awesome! I was actually pretty proud of myself for making it!
I used a tutorial found here. It was actually super easy. I'm so glad that I gave it a try!!

Rowen had such a great time and that's the best feeling in the world. Just seeing him smile, run around, and laugh with his friends made my heart want to burst. We love you sweet boy! Happy Birthday party day!!
